"We weren't prepared.
When they arrived, there was virtually no resistance.
We were a peaceful colony, mostly of farmers and common people...many of us had never seen a Xenon ship before, only heard or read of them in holo-journals, but when almost a hundred of them entered our sector of space, we immediately realized the cataclysm that was coming to us. They swarmed our planet. They launched probes to destroy our atmosphere, they literally dismantled our major moon. They annihilated every living thing in planetary orbit, destroyed dozens of ship and installations, killed thousands of people...our only Titan-class destroyer was the last ship to fall...after a 10-minutes battle.
I was the first, and the last, to escape the sector alive...the only one with a ship small and fast enough to go unnoticed or evade enemy fire. I still see them in my nightmares; huge, lifeless machines, artificial evil...I still hear the people screaming...
We definitely weren't prepared."
Hope the image is better than the story...otherwise, I really screwed up something °_°
As ever, the image set is the X-Universe, so for anyone who ignore it...let's say the Xenon are sort of "terraformers gone postal"...for all the others, well, you should already know why Xenons love to obliterate moons and such
Good ol' Photoshop, a really tiny bit of apophysis, the planet is ours (thx Nasa) and ships are Egosoft's "X3 Reunion"
Enjoy!
Or Not.
Edit: modified a bit of details (atmosphere colour, sharpened some elements, adjusted some others), now the far satellite and the firing ship on the left are better blended with the rest of image...
Dude...the little story is a really nice touch to the picture. The picture itself is magnificent! How you did the ship exploding, is exactly how you'd think a ship in space would explode! To me, it seems really life-like.
